Godox Video Lighting
Godox has produced lights that rival with the likes of Aputure on the professional video market. While they only have minor differences in functionality and quality with their rivals, the difference in the price is massive. The price of an Aputure 120d II for example buys you four Godox SL100W and while the SL series was very capable Godox has just upped the game with their new Godox FV150 FV200 as well as two new Video lights the R1 F1 and the Focusing S30. In this post we will go through each of the lights and line out some of their new features.
Godox FV150 and FV200
The Godox FV series is not just a Video light, Godox has combined Video Lighting and Flash Photography in to a single unity. The two models features are the FV150 which is a 150 watt light as the name suggest and the equivalent 200W FV200. Before we go in to the new features let’s have a look at the light specs provided by Godox.
The most obvious new part of the Godox FV150 FV200 is of course the combination of Flashlight and Continuous Video light in one unit but there are some additional upgrades that SL series users have been looking for. Here are some examples but if you want a detailed analysis check out this very detailed video of Art Video Productions here
8 Built in Special Effects. Yes, Godox has added the popular special effects you see in other brands. The FV Series features 8 special effects, Three Flash effects, Three Storm effects, a TV effect and a Broken Light Bulb effect. If you are looking for more effects the R1 F1 might be more practical due to its size and more effects but we will get to that later. The effects are also dimmable by the power output.
New LCD which is a lot clearer and bigger than before
LESS NOISE, this was one thing you could found in every review of the SL series. The Fan Noise was constant and loud, but the FV Series received an upgrade of the cooling system and the fan noise has been significantly reduced.
More Power the light is available in 150 and 200 watt versions which will give you plenty of power to light any scene.
1% Increments when increasing or decreasing the power output all the way down to 1% output.
Brighter Remote Control Screen

The R1 F1 joins the Godox lighting family as a special effects miniature light. The RGB LED’s allow you to adjust a light temperature range between 2500K and 8500K and features 22 pre programmed special effects, we dont know the full list of effects but we know they include:
- Music
- Lightning
- screen (tv)
- RGB Cycles (slow and fast)
- Candle Light
- Police Car
- Fire Truck
- Ambulance
Eight of the special effects are in the colour temperature menu, I am not sure what they are but I am sure we will know soon.
The light is powered by a built in Lithium battery and is charged via USB port.
R1 F1 can be mounted to various accessories and features a magnet that will allow you to attach it to various metallic items.
Built in 2.4G Wireless X system & Bluetooth Function to sync with various DSLR Cameras as well as a connection to a Smartphone app (via bluetooth) that will allow you to control the unit from your phone.

I tried to purchase the FV150 and the R1F1 but it seems they will not be available until early 2020. As soon as I can get my hands on them I will do a full review on our new YouTube Channel. I will also talk about lightening in my beginners series of Videography.
